Importing Data

Let's say you have a lot of information about your non-profit that you'd like to get into Delightful Labor. You may have a spreadsheet that contains your constituents' names and addresses. One option is to manually add the information, one person at a time, but that will take forever, and its easy to make typos, plus Sally the Intern has put her foot down about sitting in front of a computer monitor for weeks on end.

Luckily, Delightful Labor offers an import option. You can organize these external records as CSV files, feed them in to Delightful Labor, have all the data placed into the database, and off you go!

You can import the following information:

  • People records - names, addresses, email, phone, and more (more info here)
  • Business records (more info here)
  • Donation records - amounts, dates, accounts, campaigns, accounting country (more info here)
  • Sponsorship payments (more info here)
  • Client records (more info here)
  • Personalized tables (more info here)

There are some general rules that must be followed when importing to insure the integrety of the data.

  • import files must be CSV files
  • the first record of each file must be a header record. The header record contains the name of the column field. These field names are described in the individual table import sections. Some fields are optional, others are required.
  • the data records follows the header record. The data must match the type defined in the individual import sections.

The import process is all or nothing - Delightful Labor reviews the file before actually writing anything to the database. If errors are detected, you are notified and the import is cancelled. If your import file has a lot of errors, the process stops before reviewing the entire file.

After the information is imported, Delightful Labor creates a log file so that you know exactly which records were imported.

To access the import features, you must have a user account with administrative access.
